Active
Eco-Systems
What is it?
The Active Eco-Systems project is a free online training programme that promotes sustainable education, critical thinking and collective co-creation. It was developed by the international platform 2811 with funding from the European Union and supported by Climate KIC.
The 4-week programme supports and empowers not only teachers in formal education, but also other education providers, e.g. youth workers, youth organisations, etc. to integrate climate change content into their activities in a cross-curricular way. The training offers basic, scientific information on the climate crisis, regional contexts and impacts as well as methodological and didactic tools to complement projects in an innovative way.
Format
-
Duration: The online training comprises 4 modules over 4 weeks, totalling 3 hours per week:
- 1.5 hours of work on the online content prepared in the Teachable platform
- 1.5 hours for the live sessions (including a guest contribution from an expert on a specific topic and a group activity) - Termine: The project will take place between 23 September and 18 October 2024. We will also be holding a kick-off event on Wednesday 18 September together with the partner organisation in the Netherlands to celebrate the start of the project. Contact us if you are interested!

- Cost: The training is funded by the EU Erasmus+ programme and is free of charge.
Learning goals
- Knowledge: The participants are equipped with pedagogical methods and knowledge that enable them to sensitise young people to climate protection and innovative approaches.
- INSPIRATION: Participants will analyse examples of climate action from formal and informal educational contexts. They will also gain access to a global community of changemakers in the education system.
- Action: Participants are equipped with concrete tools that enable them to activate their target groups and educational communities for civic engagement and socio-ecological initiatives.
Benefits OF participating
Networking:
Participants will network with other educational stakeholders in Germany who work with young people/secondary school students and who are motivated to promote the development of 21st century skills.
Certificate:
Participants will be certified in ‘Education for Climate Action’ by 2811 and the EIT Climate-KIC, Europe’s leading climate innovation initiative.
Capacity building:
Participants will explore the links between climate change and urban socio-ecological challenges and will be equipped with practical tools and methods to help them address these issues in their activities and in an interdisciplinary way.
Activities
During the online training, participants will interact with the 2811 team and engage in the following activities:
Surveys: A series of online questions to collect data on participants’ knowledge, opinions and perspectives.
Online calls: Live online sessions to exchange opinions, perspectives and ideas with the moderators, participants and experts on the topics covered (mainly education for sustainable development (ESD), civic engagement and climate action).
Content: For online training, the project uses an online learning platform (Teachable) on which articles, videos and other didactic and methodological materials are shared with the participants.
Comments: Discussions are an essential part of the asynchronous part of the Climate Labs. Participants should comment on their appreciation of the materials shared and respond to other contributions where appropriate.
Final deliverable: To obtain the official certification, the participants will elaborate -and present, if required- a proposal to integrate the tools and methods explored in Climate Labs in their study plan or program design.
